Adana, Turkey

Consul Green delivers his speech
Consul Eric Green,  July 3, 2007,
U.S. Consulate, Adana
Welcome and good evening.  My wife and I are very happy to be here in Adana.

Thank you for joining our celebration of America’s Independence Day.  Let me begin by thanking the many sponsors who have helped make today’s celebration possible.

On July 4, 1776, Americans proclaimed their independence from Britain.  Democracy was born.

The words of our Declaration of Independence express American ideals of freedom, human rights and the principle of self-government.  They link us, citizens of the 21st Century, with the world of 231 years ago.  They are still our hopes and dreams.

Please join me in raising a glass to freedom, equality and justice in American and in the world, and to Turkish-American friendship.

Thank you very much.
